Portcullis Group has come a long way since it was founded by David Chong in 1984. From a small operation of a few colleagues in the 1980s, David has grown the Portcullis Group from strength to strength.
It now has about 20,000 clients from 59 different countries; about 300 colleagues with 31 licenses and 9 offices and is regarded as one of the largest independent trust companies and the go to premier trusts, private wealth and multi-family office service providers.
Throughout his illustrious career, David Chong is regarded as a beacon of wisdom and a trailblazer in the trust and private wealth industry and someone who dares to speak his mind about the industry. While helming the law firm David Chong Law Corporation and Portcullis Group, David also founded the Fusang Corp and Fusang Exchange, a groundbreaking initiative in the world of digital securities and cryptocurrencies with his son, Henry Chong and started Baxian Bank Ltd in Labuan.
Many people may not know this but David, ever the man with incredible foresight, also started and was the founding president of the Singapore Branch of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Singapore Fund Administration Association and was the Bailli of Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Bailliage de Singapour.
To quote his son, “Dad, you are a leader. You have built a great company. Now 39 years strong. A company that has stood the test of time. You are a leader in the community. Just look around you at all those gathered here today. And I know, most importantly to you, you have nurtured a loving family. And we are all so proud to be here beside you today.”
David shows no signs of slowing down. At his birthday speech, David announced the impending move of Portcullis Group offices to Hong Leong to be closer to the city centre of Singapore, after more than 25 years in Suntec Tower 4, as well as a back-office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in order to support Portcullis’ other offices.
David continued by introducing the launch of a new Hong Kong Family Office solution he dubs “the Singapore Sling” that will allow a family to fast-track their family office set-up pending S 13O/U approval in Singapore. You can read more about it here.
David ended his speech with a prayer for world peace in these troubled times. David also thanked some people for their support including his guests and his family.
As we celebrate his 70th birthday, we pay tribute to the extraordinary life of David Chong. His indomitable spirit, dedication to excellence, and unwavering commitment to progress continue to inspire and guide us. Happy Birthday, David Chong. Your journey remains a source of inspiration for us all, and we look forward to celebrating many more years of your remarkable life.
Thank you everybody for taking the time out on your busy weekend and celebrating with us.
